Asukabook suggestions

This article covers the best way to create books for Asukabook in ProSelect. It is not yet complete but includes the currently known "gotchas" when doing this in ProSelect:

Asukabook's requirements do seem to make it harder than other book manufacturers. Below is a list of things that you need to be aware of.

  1. Since Asukabook expects inside pages (the second to second last page) to be one full width file, you only use double-spread templates in ProSelect for inside pages OR make sure that you use Join Book Pages (under the Album Menu) to combine any single-spread page pairs into double-spreads before you export them in Hi-Res Production.  Make sure that you DO NOT have Split Double Spread Book Pages checked in Preferences -> Hi-Res production -> Output settings -> Output File.
  2. Single sided pages at start and end of the book are not exactly half of the size of a double page spread page which ProSelect assumes. It easiest to setup ProSelect's Book Design to match the size of half a double spread page (e.g. an 8" x 16" double spread book would use a book design page size of 8" x 8". After running Production, just resize the first and last pages manually in Photoshop to the single sized page size.
  3. Page sizes are specified in pixels so, when setting up a Book Design in ProSelect you need to divide their pixel sizes by the required PPI (pixels per inch) that you have setup in ProSelect's hi-res production preferences to get page dimensions in inches.
  4. Cover pages sizes are book model dependent, use a different PPI and so its probably easier to create these separately in Photoshop
  5. You may need to rename the output pages before dropping them into the AsukaBook pdf builder program.
