Incorrect Flash Player

The WebGallery system (on computers) uses Adobe's Flash player plugin to display albums in your web browser. In order to work correctly, you need to have Flash Player version 9.0.45 or newer installed on your computer.

The WebGallery system automatically detects the version that you have installed and warns you if you don't have it installed or if you need to upgrade to a newer version.

In this case, you can download the latest Flash player for free from the main page of Adobe's web site. Just click on the Get Flash Player box and follow the instructions to download the installer.

The article "WebGallery Viewer Tester" will also assist with checking this for you and includes infomation about using WebGallery on iPad/tablet devices.

Problems on Macs

There is a bug on the Mac which incorrectly doesn't remove the old Flash Player when an updated version is installed AND, when asked which verison is installed, it sometimes reports the old one!

You can see exactly which plug-ins are installed in Safari by selecting Installed Plugins (under the Help Menu) and looking down the list for the Shockwave Flash section. At the time of this writing the latest version will be shown as Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22 — from file “Flash Player.plugin”. Make sure that there are not more than one player installed. If so, follow the instructions below:

You can manually remove all Flash Players and then re-install the latest one from the Adobe Web site as follows:

  1. Close Safari
  2. Open the folder on Mac OSX (or your boot disk) -> Library -> Internet Plug-Ins
  3. Drag the following files, if present, to the Trash: Flash Player.plugin, flashplayer.xpt, NP-PPC-DIR-Shockwave and any other files with Flash or Shockwave in their name.
  4. Open Safari again.
  5. Go to www.adobe.com and click on the Get Flash Player box.
  6. When the download is finished, double-click on the Install Flash Player 10 UB.dmg file.
  7. In the window that opens, click on the Adobe Flash Player.pkg file.
  8. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.
