Positioning and setting up your projector

The distance that you place your projector from the wall (or screen) will determine the maximum size of the images that you can display. The further away the projector from the wall (or screen), the larger the display area. Some projectors have a zoom lens which will allow you to adjust the projection area size (to a limited extent) without moving the projector.

Using a Projector Screen

If you are using a projector screen then you should position your projector such that, when turned on and showing your computer's desktop image, its projected light fills just within the bounds of your screen. This will give you the maximum possible size when you are showing your images.

Projecting onto a Wall

If you are projecting onto a wall then you can make it any size you want however the images will start to look less saturated and more pixelated the larger you go. As a guide, you should make the projected area height approximately 12% larger that the maximum height of a portrait oriented print size that you wish to show. For example, if you wish to show prints up to 50" high then your projected screen height will need to be at least 56" high (50 x 1.12).

Angle Adjustments

Most projectors also have the ability to compensate for the projection "angle" that makes the sides of the projected area lean in or out. In this case, use the "keystone" adjustment controls on your projector to get the sides of the projected area vertical. After doing this you may need to adjust the position or zoom of the projector again to just fill your screen area.

As a final test, open a square cropped image in any image program (such as Photoshop) on your projection screen and measure the height and width of the image on the screen - they should be exactly the same. If not, then you will need to use the width and/or height adjustment controls on your projector until they are.

Last Step

After completing the above, the last thing to do is to open ProSelect and calibrate your screen. This procedure is explained in the "Display Calibration" section the ProSelect Reference Manual (quick access under the Help menu in ProSelect).

Once calibrated, when you use Select Size View in ProSelect, your images will be displayed at the exact size.
