Missing ProSelect Resources folder on startup after upgrading ProSelect

If you are getting a window that says Unable to access ProSelect Resources folder after upgrading from an earlier version of ProSelect prior to 2012r1 (this includes versions 3.x and 4.x), then possibly you have moved your ProSelect Resources folder to a non-standard location.

These earlier versions of ProSelect allowed you to locate your ProSelect Resources folder on another location, however this is no longer permitted unless you are using one of the new Sharing options so please follow the instructions below:

IMPORTANT BACKUP COPIES

Firstly, before doing anything, make sure that you have a current backup copy of both your entire ProSelect Resources folder and your ProSelect_Data.xml file.

If you don't have these already then you need make copies of both WITHOUT opening ProSelect.

See this the article Transfering or Backing Up your Prices & Templates for where these are stored on your computer for your previous version of ProSelect.

Note: Your ProSelect Resources folder is likely not in the standard location but rather another location that you have previously moved it to.

Fixing the Problem

Make sure that only one copy of ProSelect is running. Then open ProSelect on your most up-to-date computer and do the following:

  1. Select Turn off Sharing in the "Unable to access ProSelect Resources folder" window.
  2. Check that your price lists are still correctly set up. If so, jump to step 5.
  3. If you price lists are not correct then use ProSelect Data -> Import Data from... (under the File menu) and select to import the backup copy of your ProSelect_Data.xml file.
  4. Check that your price lists are correctly set up. If not, you will need to locate an earlier backup of the file to import. Then repeat step 3.
  5. Go to Preferences -> General Settings -> Sharing
  6. Select the Shared Data Folder option and the Setup window should open.
  7. At the top of this window click the magnifying glass and select the Resource Folder location where you have your ProSelect Resources folder located.
  8. Click the Send to Shared button to copy your ProSelect Data into your shared ProSelect Resources folder.
  9. In the Save ProSelect Data file Changes section, you can set which option to use (usually the second or third is best).
  10. Close the Preferences window.
  11. Close and re-open ProSelect and make sure everything is OK.

Upgrading other computers

If you have more than one computer then, after the first computer is all OK, you can get the other computers running one at a time as follows:

  1. Make sure ProSelect has been closed on the first computer.
  2. Select Turn off sharing in the Unable to access ProSelect Resources folder window.
  3. Go to Preferences -> General Settings -> Sharing
  4. Select Shared Data Folder option and the Setup window should open
  5. At the top of this window point the Resource folder location to where you have your ProSelect Resources folder located.
  6. Close the Preferences window.
  7. Close and re-open ProSelect on this computer and make sure everything is OK.

See the  Backup and Sharing section in the ProSelect Reference Manual for more about sharing options (quick access under the Help menu in ProSelect).
