Beta testing - Installing and Reporting Issues

Thank you for helping beta test ProSelect.

Requirements for using Beta Test versions

You must have a current ProSelect Lease or current ProStudio PLUS in your account to use the beta test version.

Pre-requisites

Before you install the beta test version on your computer:

  1. Make sure that you have a backup copy of your ProSelect data. See this Article: Backing up your ProSelect Setup Data.

  2. Turn off any Resources Sharing you have so that any changes to your data made by the beta test version do not get copied to your other computers. To do this, you will need to make a copy of your shared ProSelect Resources folder back to the standard location on your computer. See this article for where the standard location is on your computer: Finding the ProSelect Resources Folder.  After that you can turn off sharing in ProSelect's Preferences -> General Settings -> Sharing -> Setup Sharing: Set to Not Shared.

Installing the beta test version

The easiest option is to simply install the beta test version over the top of your current version of ProSelect. This way you won't be confused as to which version you are starting or running.  If you wish to remove the beta test version then you can simply re-download the latest previous release from the main downloads page it will overwrite the beta version.

If you wish to keep two versions on your computer at the same time then, this is possible by doing the following:

On Mac OSX:

In your Applications folder, rename the current "ProSelect" folder to ProSelect 20XXr1". Inside that folder rename "ProSelect.app" to "ProSelect 20XXr1.app". You can then drag the "ProSelect 20XXr1.app" file to your dock for easy access. OSX will require you permission to make these changes.

Then install the beta test version. It will be the new "ProSelect" folder in your Applications folder. If you select to it added to the Dock it will be called "ProSelect".

On Windows:

Open C:\Program Files (x86)\ProStudioSoftware\

Rename the current "ProSelect" folder to ProSelect 20XXr1". Inside that folder rename "ProSelect.exe" to "ProSelect 20XXr1.exe". Rename any shortcuts on your desktop the same way.

Then install the beta test version. It will be the new "ProSelect" folder in your ProStudio folder. Select to add the shortcut to your desktop.

Removing the beta test version

  1. If you have copied over your current ProSelect version then just re-install the previous release from the main downloads page it will overwrite the beta version.

  2. If you have renamed the files then you will manually need to remove the new ProSelect folders (in Application on Macs and in C:\Program Files (x86)\ProStudioSoftware\ on Windows). Then rename the folders and files back if you wish.

  3. Start the previous version, then use ProSelect data -> Import Data from (under the File menu) to re-load the backup copy of your ProSelect_ data.xml file that you made prior to installing the beta test version.

  4. If you previously had sharing turned on then you can restart this in the Preferences window. After selecting the shared folder location, it is recommended that you click the "Get from Shared" button to download any changes made by any other computers from your shared location.

Submitting Beta Test Error Reports

Your first stop in reporting any bugs or issues should be the ProSelect Beta Testing Facebook page

If we need more information in order to reproduce the issue then you will be directed to submit a ticket to the Beta Testing Department on the TimeExposure.com website. Note: You will need to be logged into your ProStudioSoftware.com account to submit this ticket. See below for what you should send to us.

If you see the ProSelect Internal Error window:

1. Send the error report directly from that window with your name, email address, and a brief description of what you were doing. Make a note of the Error Report number. This will send details of your current setup (ProSelect Data and Preferences settings) and album file internal details to us.

2. Submit an Error report to the Beta Test Department of the Support Ticket system including the Error Report number. Please included any additional information about what you were doing when the error occurred.

If you experience unexpected operation:

1. Under the Help Menu in ProSelect, choose "Send Diagnostic Data". This will send details of your current setup (ProSelect Data and Preferences settings) and album file internal details to us.

2. Please submit your error report through the Beta test department of the Support Ticket system. Include

(a) What you were trying to do.

(b) What "Working with Mode" you were using (eg working with Images, layouts, books etc)

(c) What View you were (thumbnails, Show, Crop etc) or what window was open.

(d) What happened or didn't happen.

(e) Any screenshots that would be helpful.

Notes about submitting a support ticket

1. You will receive a confirmation email in less than 10 minutes confirming receipt of your ticket. If you do not receive then either:

(a) You did not fully submit the ticket

(b) Our reply went into your spam folder or was blocked by your ISP.

2. If you do not receive a reply, you can check your ticket status using View My Tickets under the Support menu on the Prostudiosoftware.com website. You need to be logged into your account to see these.

3. When adding attachments to your ticket, make sure of the following:

(a) All attachments must be either .jpg, .pdf, or .zip (if a different type then zip it first)

(b) All attachments must be less than 1MB in size otherwise they will be removed.

(c) After adding an attachment make sure that you wait until it has been uploaded (ie displays the filename with a checkbox) before submitting your support ticket.

4. If you need to send  a very large attachment (such as an output movie file, album file etc) then please use this link:

https://www.hightail.com/u/Prostudiosoftware

You will then be prompted to:

  1. Select/drag the file(s) to send to us onto the displayed area.
  2. Enter your name and email address (to confirm it was successfully sent to us), and subject
  3. Include a brief message about the file/issue (e.g. you can include your Support Ticket number),
  4. Click the "Send" button

Note: Please only send a maximum total file size of 500Mb.

Thank you for helping to test the next great ProSelect release!
