My Templates have a Red X on them

If your template thumbnails display with a red X over them, then this means that ProSelect cannot find the overlay image file associated with the template. The overlay image files are stored in a subfolder of your ProSelect Resources Folder.

The first thing to do is to check that ProSelect's Preferences are correctly pointing to where the ProSelect Resources folder is located. You can check (or change) this setting in ProSelect's Preferences --> General Settings --> Sharing (tab) --> Resource Folder LocationThe "Show Folder" button in that window will take you to that location also. This makes it easy for finding and copy the ProSelect Resources folder from another computer.

See also the Sharing information below if you have/wish to set this option up on your computers.

Finding the associated Overlay Image file name

If you open the "Template Editor" window (under Templates menu)  and choose the template with a "red x", you will be able to see the name of the overlay image file associate with that template on the right hand side. You need to have a .png version (and optionally a .psd version) of this file in your ProSelect Resources folder.

You should either put the image file back (or delete the template - there will be a low-res copy of the overlay image in ProSelect's cache but "Check for updated files" must remove these if the original file is missing).

If you transferred to another computer

If you have transferred your Prices and Templates data file to another computer, then you need to also make sure that you:

  • Copy the entire Resources Folder to the other computer(s) as well (suggest to the same location),
  • Check/Set the location that ProSelect Preferences setting on each installed copy of ProSelect is correctly pointing to the "ProSelect Resources" folder location (as discussed above).
  • Or if using a fast network, locate the "ProSelect Resources" Folder to a shared network folder referenced by all copies of ProSelect on different computers (and use either the "Shared Folder" or "ProSelect Network Server" option to share the price and templates data between computers).

Further Information

To find where the folder may be located for your installed version of ProSelect (Windows or Mac), then please also see the section "Checking Your ProSelect Resources Folder location" in the article  "Finding the ProSelect Resources Folder".

The short tutorial movies "Backup & Sharing - What you need to know" and "How to setup & use a Shared Data Folder" on the Tutorials & Quick Tips page (under the Training menu on the ProStudio Software website) will assist also.
