ProSelect Debug feature

Issue on Startup

If when initially starting up the ProSelect software, the program doesn't progress or freezes/crashes, and if requested by a ProStudio Software Technical Support Team member to do so, please follow the steps below.  This will assist in telling us what steps ProSelect is taking prior to the issue occurring and where the program stops (eg the task of starting up/loading data, or other).

(Note 1:  If the issue happens when ProSelect is "Initializing External Resources" - you may see this on the splash screen, then please see this article "Out of Memory Error Initialising Resources on Startup" for how to resolve this.)

This startup debug reporting feature is available as of ProSelect v2011r2 and newer.

  1. Start ProSelect while holding the SHIFT key down (keep the key down until you see a new window)
  2. In the window check the "Debug Messages On" and "Show Debug Window" checkboxes
  3. Click the Continue button

In the Debug Data window that appears, after the reporting stops choose the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste this into your Support Ticket reply. Also include any error message/code number you may see outside of this debug window during the start up process if not as yet reported to Technical Support.

Note 2: If the Computer freezes prior to accessing the data, then restart your computer and attach a copy of the "ProSelect Debug log.txt" file (found in the "ProSelect Debug Data" folder under the default "Application Data" location shown in the article "Finding ProSelect Data & Preferences files") in your Support ticket reply.

Issue while ProSelect software has been running

If an error occurs and the ProSelect software prompts you to send Diagnositc Data to ProStudio Software, then please do so and then submit a Support ticket  with the report number (via the ProStudioSoftware.com --> Support menu --> Support Resources --> Submit ticket).

ProSelect v2011r1 and newer also includes an internal debug feature which if requested by a Technical Support Team member to do so, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open the "About ProSelect" Window (under the Help menu)
  2. Click Debugging Off text (bottom right under graphic) - it will turn to Debugging On
  3. Click Enable Debug Window (center under graphic)
  4. Close About window
  5. Do your task

(Hint: If you are experiencing slideshow issues, then make sure you set this up ready to run first, then do Step 1)

When the task stops, use the "Copy to Clipboard" button in the Debug data window then paste the messages into your Support ticket reply.

Note: If the Computer freezes prior to accessing the data, then restart your computer and attach a copy of the "ProSelect Debug log.txt" file (found in the "ProSelect Debug Data" folder under the default "Application Data" location shown in the article "Finding ProSelect Data & Preferences files") in your Support ticket reply.
