To our ProSelect community,
I want to personally acknowledge the frustration and emotion many of you have expressed in response to the shutdown of the legacy TimeExposure servers. I've read the comments, and I understand where they're coming from.
Running a photography business today is harder than ever. We see the challenges. We know it's tough. That's why this decision wasn't made lightly.
Let me provide some clarity and context—because facts matter.
If You're Using Version 2022 or Later, You're Not Affected
If your software opens with a Pro Studio Software logo, you're on a PSS version. You're not affected by the server shutdown.
There are two supported versions under our name: ProSelect 2022r1 and ProSelect 2025+. Both continue to run and 2025 receives updates.
If your version still opens with a TimeExposure logo, that software is now considered legacy. And after October 1, it will no longer function.
We Bought the Code, Not the Company
In October 2021, Pro Studio Software acquired the intellectual property for the ProSelect 2022 codebase and the brand trademarks.
We did not buy TimeExposure. We never received their customer revenue, and they chose not to support outdated versions.
Even so, we chose to honor all active PLUS plans—without compensation. TimeExposure collected the funds. But we provided the support, licensing (music, graphics, SendMyRooms, retouching), and issued 7 additional updates for those users.
Four Years of Communication & Offers
Since 2021, we've been openly communicating this day would come.
We've included this or similar language in many emails since then:
“Please note that version XXXX is a legacy product from TimeExposure, which is no longer in operation and may not provide future server support.”
We also offered multiple upgrade paths:
We've Been Supporting Software We Didn't Sell
For nearly four years, we maintained servers, issued patches, and provided access for software we didn't develop, didn't sell, and from which we received no revenue.
Yes, the product name was the same. But the company behind it was not.
Some are asking us to patch 20+ versions of outdated software to make them continue to work. That would be a significant investment in time, money, and developer resources—for users who have not chosen to support the current product.
Meanwhile, our active subscriber base is funding the ongoing growth of ProSelect. I've made the decision that it's not fair to invest those funds in legacy systems at the expense of loyal, current users.
Let's Be Honest About Expectations
We've seen comments from users expecting support for software they bought 15-20 years ago for $300. I get it. Many paid much more over the years. You bought something that served you well. But that purchase was made from another company, long since gone.
Pro Studio Software has done what we could. It's time to move on.
Why Now? Why Not Wait?
Some Mac configurations are already failing. If we didn't act now, access could disappear without notice.
We chose a controlled, clear shutdown over a mid-season disaster.
We know October begins the busiest season for many of you, and we didn't want anyone to lose access with no warning
We Respect Your Decision—And Ours
Some of you may choose to move to another software platform. We respect that. You have to do what's best for your business and your clients. I have to do what's best for ours.
ProSelect Today Is a Different Product
Since 2022, Pro Studio Software has made massive improvements:
We're proud of what ProSelect has become. And we're not slowing down.
In Closing
We've supported legacy versions longer than anyone expected. But now it's time to turn the page.
If you're already with us, thank you. If you're coming back—welcome. And if you choose a different path, we wish you nothing but success.
We're committed to photographers who are building for today and tomorrow, and we'll continue delivering tools to help you succeed.
Sincerely,
Ron Nichols
