Correct set up for Slideshow movies and iDVD

This article has been replaced by Creating a Slideshow DVD on Mac which should be used with ProSelect 2013r1 and newer.

In ProSelect v2012r2 and earlier, when you are making a QuickTime Slideshow movie with the intention of burning it to DVD, make sure that you set the Movie Size corresponding to the TV standard in your country.   If you intend for the movie to be only played on a computer, (using QuickTime Movie Player) then selecting any size is OK.  The "Movie Size" setting options are available in the Export Quicktime Slideshow (under the File menu) along with other settings.

The Quality setting controls the amount of compression used when making the movie. The higher the quality, the larger the movie file will be. The Medium setting will produce a very acceptable quality movie, however if you will be re-converting the movie into another format (such as preparing to burn it as a DVD movie), then you should use the High setting to avoid any double-compression artifacts.

Analogue

If you are using iDVD (on the Mac), make sure that you match this setting in iDVD's Preferences (ie select either NTSC or PAL format). If exporting for Analogue viewing, this will be either:

  • 720x480 (NTSC DVD) for USA, Canada, Japan plus some others OR
  • 720x576 (PAL DVD) for Australia and most European countries

You will find more information on "Creating a Quicktime Slideshow" in the ProSelect v2012r2 and earlier Reference Manual (quick access under the Help menu in ProSelect).
