McAfee VirusScan Conflict
Non-current versions of McAfee Virus scan software can conflict with ProSelect causing it to immediately close when opened or randomly close when a virus scan or update runs.

It appears that McAfee may have fixed this in more recent updates. You can find out what version you have by right-clicking on the McAfee icon in the system tray and selecting "VirusScan" then "About". Look for the version of the DAT file that is installed. The last four numbers should be 4532 or higher. (eg 4.0.4532). If you are subscribed to their automatic update service, the newer version of the DAT file should already be on your system.

Otherwise you can download the latest DAT file using the instructions below that we obtained from McAfee:

How do I manually update VirusScan?

To manually update the product, you will need an unzipping program (like Winzip from www.winzip.com ) to extract the update files. Instructions found below.

  1. Download the dat-xxxx.zip file from http://www.nai.com/us/downloads/updates/dat.asp

  2. Disable ActiveShield. (Right click on the McAfee icon by the click, point to VirusScan and click on Disable)

  3. Unzip the following files to the folder C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO   (More information on unzipping files refer to http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq3.asp?docID=166 ).

  4. * CLEAN.DAT
    * NAMES.DAT
    * SCAN.DAT

  5. Enable ActiveShield.

VirusScan will now be updated.
