Finding Originals taking a long time
If ProSelect is taking a long time to Find Original images,  then the following will help with why this may happen and provide suggestions on how to speed the process up.

An album's link to your original images is only used for commands that relate to the original images. These include moving or copying the original images that have been ordered or are in the selected tab, opening original images in Photoshop or when using Hi-Res Production.

If you have moved the original images to a different location, moved the album to another computer, or deleted or renamed the Network volume they resided on, then the links will no longer be valid.  In this case, you will need to select the Original Images -> Find All Original Images or Original Images -> Find All Ordered Images (under the Album menu) so ProSelect can find the images again.

Why this may be slow

Re-linking consists of scanning the original folder first to see if the file is still there. If you are using a Network folder, and the network volume is no longer available, then ProSelect may have to wait for a network timeout before continuing.

Speeding up the Finding Process

We have added a new option to ProSelect version 4.1 and newer, which is a FORCE FIND. This tells ProSelect not to look for the original image immediately, but instead prompt you for the new directory location. To do this, you need to hold the SHIFT key down when choosing Find Original Images.

Alternatively, you could try creating an empty network drive in the same name as the original ones so ProSelect can look there, see the image is not there immediately and move on to the next step.

Hint:
  1. The image file location is stored is the album file, and the path to the files MUST be the same from each machine if opening the same album on different computers. e.g.  Z:\jobs\jobname\image file.jpg. That is, your network must be consistent when viewed from every computer.

  2. You can also check if and what file an image is linked to by selecting the image and doing a Show Selected Image Info (under the Album menu). You will find the paths to the Original file location and the Production file location.

  3. Larger directories will be proportionately slower to access across a network, and there is no limit on the number of files ProSelect will scan for in a folder.
