Exclamation mark on a Thumbnail image

When double clicking on an image in ProSelect, if it shows an exclamation mark on the bottom left of the thumbnail then this indicates that ProSelect was unable to locate the low-res image file in the album.

If occurring with a New Album

If this is happening with a new album, then this can mean that ProSelect can not write the image to its temporary album file called "untitled.psa" which is located in:

On Mac
     Your Home Folder/Library/Application Support/ProSelect

On Windows 7 & 8 and Vista
     C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Roaming\ProSelect

On Windows XP
     C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\ProSelect

Solution

Close ProSelect and check if this file exists, and if so

  1. Trash (Mac)/Delete(Windows) that file.
  2. ProSelect will create a new one the next time you startup.
  3. You should also check that the ProSelect folder above has read/write permission. (Command-I on Mac, Right button click then select Properties on folder in  Windows)

Notes:

  1. Your User Name is your account name (careful - sometimes this is not the same as your login name).
  2. On Mac OSX Lion and newer - by default your Library folder is hidden from view. To get direct access to the Library folder, you can open it by selecting Library under the Finder’s Go menu while holding down the Alt/Option Key.  See also the article "Missing Library Folder on Mac OSX" for this and more.
  3. On Windows - by default the Application Data (AppData) folder is hidden from view. To get direct access to this folder, see the article "Missing AppData or ProgramData folder on Windows".

If occurring with an Existing Album

If this is happening with an existing album, then likely the album is write protected (e.g. possibly open on another computer, or the file was renamed externally of ProSelect while still open in ProSelect), but in this case you should see a message as such.

If you now see empty grey boxes, then please read the article "Screen images open as empty grey boxes"  for how to resolve this.

If using a Flash Drive to save and load your ProSelect Albums

We had a user report this problem when using a Flash drive. She solved the problem by copying the ProSelect album from the flash drive to her hard disk and opening it from there. We do not recommend opening a ProSelect file directly from a portable device.
