QTCF.dll is missing error on startup

Quicktime is by default installed on Mac, however not so on Windows.  ProSelect checks and automatically uses Quicktime if it is installed on your computer (Quicktime is required to be installed for certain features).

If you get the following error (or similar), it means that you do have Quicktime installed however the installation is corrupted or incomplete.

"The program can't start because QTCF.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

We suggest you uninstall and re-install the Quicktime.

Note: If you are using ProSelect 2016r1 or newer, the Quicktime installer is included as part of the ProSelect installer package for Windows. So you should uninstall both ProSelect and Quicktime from your computer then reinstall ProSelect (while selecting to install Quicktime at the same time).

Otherwise, if you are using Windows 8 or 10 please see this article about how to install on these computer:  Installing Quicktime on Windows 10 & 8.

Either way, make sure that you re-start your computer after installing Quicktime.

Further Information (we googled!)

If the above steps haven't resolved the error, we found this information for Windows - that you can try manually replacing the .dll file.

  • Search your system for the file QTCF.dll (make sure your search includes hidden and system files). It will be located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem or C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem.
  • Then copy that file into C:\windows\system32 and restart your computer.
  • If you cannot find that file on your system, you can download it in several places by Googling “QTCF.dll download”.

Also this:

  1. Close all open applications.
  2. Go to Start --> Control Panel (Settings) --> Programs (Uninstall a Program)
  3. Uninstall QuickTime
  4. Restart your computer
  5. Download a fresh version of QuickTime
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
  6. Run the installer.

Note the re-starting the computer between uninstall and new install.
