ProSelect Hangs on startup while checking messages

Each time that you start ProSelect, if it has been more than four hours since it last checked for any new messages (and you have an internet connection), it will try to connect to TimeExposures's server to see if there are any new messages for you.

To detect if you have a good internet connection, it first tries to pinging Googles servers (which should be available 99.99% of the time!). If successful, it then checks for new messages on TimeExposures's server. In the unlikely event of a network routing issue, ProSelect could get hung up waiting for that connection.

If this happens, you can do either of the following:

  1. Completely disconnect the computer that you are running ProSelect on from the internet (eg turn off Wifi and unplug any network connections). On startup, ProSelect will detect that internet access is not available and bypass the message checking stage.

  2. Start ProSelect while holding down the SHIFT key. In the Startup window that appears, check the "Bypass New Messages" checkbox then click the Continue button. Selecting this option will cause ProSelect to bypass any checks for new messages for the next 2 days. For more about this, see the section "Resetting Things" in the ProSelect Reference Manual. You can access this manual under Help Menu in ProSelect or download it from the main downloads page on TimeExposure.com.

Checking access to TimeExposure's Server

If you are having trouble accessing our server, then here are some ways to check what might be the problem.

  1. Check another site such as https://www.Google.com to make sure your computer is connected to the internet.
  2. Restart your in-house router as sometimes these get their DNS out-of-date and this can cause access issues.
  3. Contact your ISP and ask them to test the routing to www.timeexposure.com.
  4. Check access to www.timeexposure.com using another network (eg your mobile phone - but make sure that Wifi is turned off so your phone is not using your in-house network)
  5. Post on the ProSelect User2User Facebook page to see if any other users are having the same issue. (You need to apply to join this page so best do this now so you can access it when you need to!)
  6. Connect a friend who is using a different ISP and ask them to check whether they can access www.timeexposure.com.
