Resolving a YouTube Music Copyright Claim

ProStudio Software PLUS Music is licensed from artists around the world.   Music creators, just as photographers, retain the copyright to the content they produce.    These music tracks are licensed to companies or individuals for use in their productions.   As a part of your PLUS subscription, ProStudio Software pays the royalties so you can use the music in your ProSelect created productions.

If you upload a video to YouTube using PLUS music, you could possibly receive a Content ID claim. These claims are issued by companies that own the music.

Depending on the copyright owner’s policy, some Content ID claims prevent certain material from being available on YouTube. Others allow the video to remain live, while directing the advertising revenue to the copyright owners of the claimed music.

What if I get a claim on my video?

As a PLUS subscriber, you have the required rights to use the music in your ProSelect created productions.  Since this is the case, you want to Dispute the Claim.   The process is quick and simple.

How to dispute

  1. Sign in to your YouTube account.
  2. In the top right, click your account icon > Creator Studio.
  3. On the left, click Video manager > Copyright notices
  4. Click on the © symbol next to the video with the claim you wish to dispute. This will take you to information about what’s been claimed in your video and who claimed it.
  5. Click "File a dispute" and fill out the appropriate fields to submit your dispute.
  6. Under reason for the dispute, please add the following:   “This music is licensed for use under the agreement through my PLUS subscription, https://www.prostudiosoftware.com/txeplus.php.”

What happens after I dispute?

After you submit your dispute, the copyright owner has 30 days to respond. During this time, the claim will be temporarily released. If they don’t respond within 30 days, their claim on your video will expire, and you don’t need to do anything.

There are a few things that the copyright owner can do after you dispute:

Release the claim: If they agree with your dispute, they can choose to release their claim. If you were previously monetizing the video, your monetization settings will be restored automatically when all claims on your video are released.

Uphold the claim: If they believe their claim is still valid, they can choose to uphold it. In that case, you’ll need to submit a support request to Prostudiosoftware.com and we will assist you in resolving the issue. When doing so, please make sure that you provide a link to the YouTube movie this is the subject of the dispute.

Most claims can be handled and resolved quickly.   Music producers, just like other creative professionals like yourself, want to ensure their music is only used by people who are paying proper licensing fees.
