Photoshop CC2020 Issues on Macs

Updated October 12, 2020

Some users have reported a number of issues when using Photoshop CC 2020. Some of these are related to the general use of Photoshop by itself and others are related to accessing it from ProSelect. We are only dealing with the latter group of issues in this article. We have verified the problems below on both OSX Mojave and OSX Catalina.

SOLUTION: We traced the problem to changes that Adobe has made in CC 2020 (possibly to ensure compatibility with OSX Catalina) when opening files and running scripts and have incorporated workarounds into ProSelect 2020r1. ProSelect 2020r1 now detects which version of Photoshop you are using and automatically changes the way it communicates with Photoshop to suit.

At this stage, we are not sure if its a Photoshop bug, an OSX interaction issue, or something we can work around with a change to ProSelect. We will update this article as new information becomes available.

Unable Open an Image in Photoshop from ProSelect

This occurs when your use CMD-T in the main window or click the Open in Photoshop button in the Production window.

The previous use of AppleEvents to do this operation no longer seems to work. However, it does work if you select "Use Javascript to Launch" in ProSelect's Preferences -> General Settings -> General -> Photo Editor so this is currently the recommended solution.

Unable to open RAW files in Photoshop from ProSelect

This occurs when your use CMD-Y in the main window or click the Open RAWS in Photoshop button in the Production window.

If you have select Photoshop as your RAW file editor in the Preferences then you also need to select "Use Javascript to Launch" in ProSelect's Preferences. However, Photoshop will not open more than one RAW file at a time. It just hangs if you try.

Reverting back to CC2019

If you are having these issuing and need to be able to open more than one RAW file at a time in Photoshop Adobe Camera Raw window, then best to revert to using Photoshop CC 2019. You should uninstall CC 2020 from your computer to avoid confusing ProSelect as it will, by default use the latest version.

One user reported that reverting back to CC 2019 and have it work reliably, required him to remove all versions of Photoshop and Creative Cloud, then run the  Creative Cloud Cleanup Tool before reinstalling Creative Cloud and Photoshop CC 2019 (and Lightroom).
